Is this... ethical? The Firebox Pixie Tears Elderflower and Cucumber taste test has arrived.

Pixie Tears Gin

To be brutally honest, I didn't think it would get any stranger after the unicorn tears.

I mean, we already had a beverage crafted from the literal tears of a psuedozoological animal, PETA was already after me, I didn't need international police on my tail as well. But here we are, stuck with another odd combination from the geniuses (read: madmen) from Firebox, and the wails of sirens in the background. Hopefully, if the unicorn tears were anything to go by, this'll be worth a short visit to the Hague.

All joking aside, this gin is certainly a unique combination. Elderflower is a staple in many drinks, of course, but cucumber? Not so much. So I wasn't sure what to expect when I poured out an ample measure, this time straight on the rocks, although of course it can be enjoyed mixed with whatever you prefer. Much like the unicorn tears, this drink shimmers like some kind of emerald potion after just a little shake. I wonder what it is that makes their tears so pretty, and not ours? I'm certainly not going to complain, as the shimmering creates an effect that makes this gin oh so pleasant to look at.

But of course, nobody buys gin just to watch. Even though I was, I admit, initially expecting to not like it, on tasting, I was immediately taken aback by the sheer freshness of this gin. It's not mentioned on the bottle, but ample notes of spearmint combine with the refreshing nature of cucumber to leave you with a gin that simultaneously fills and cleanses your palate, invigorating your senses and making you want more. Citrusy notes blend into the drink, with sweet hints of juniper, leading to an incredible experience you won't find with many other gins.

Overall, I wouldn't want to drink this gin too often. Why you ask? Because it's so good I don't think I'd be able to stop, and pixie tears are surely a rare resource. For you though, I can't recommend this enough if you're looking for something unique and refreshing, for yourself or to serve at a party to show how exquisite you are.

You can see the rest of our unicorn (and, of course, pixie) gins here.
